YCN Student Awards

This is a poster that i designed whilst interning at YCN. It was used as a limited print to accompany the student entries sent to all participation brands. It was also used within the packaging design.

Its always a pleasure to see work in print, 90% of everything created stays digital for ever. It always seems some how different when in ‘real life’!

I am currently interning at YCN which so far has been great! The best part has been working on live briefs and seeing them in action!

Here is a snippet of an image i’v just finished up.

It has been good experience of quick turn around briefs, so i’v got quite a few images to show coming soon!

An image from a recent editorial job. I’m really enjoying limiting my colours at the moment. The end result is usually more pleasing than a super hectic pallet.

Personal Project

I have been working on this one for a while now. It is quite intricate, and i went through a lot of trial and error with composition, colour and general layout, but i think its there now. I struggle with when an image actually feels ‘finished’. Deciding when its the rite point to stop is pretty crucial with these top-down style perspectives, as too busy can break the whole image. Leaving it for a few days and coming back to it sometimes gives me a fresh perspective, which is a luxury of personal projects!

If anyone is interested, i should also be selling this as a large-ish scale print in my (yet to be finalised) online shop, so keep your eyes peeled!

When it comes to front cover design, i am super mega ultra balls at making any form of decision. Each tiny adjustment of any aspect makes a huge difference to the overall image. Sometimes making everything gray scale is nice, but i do also feel like its a bit of a cop-out.

Editorial - Crops

Why hello there! I thought it mite be nice to show you a few crops of some editorial work that i have been involved in recently. I haven’t updated this blog in a while, due to being busy working part time and illustrating in between.

within this project i found that working within a much tighter time frame compared to uni is a challenge, coming up with lots of possible ideas for multiple articles that actually convey some form of meaning is tough but rewarding when you finally get it.

I’ve recently been making this map loosely based on the french ski resort ‘Samoens’.

I received some really great advice at the D&AD portfolio reviews regarding the progression of my portfolio and it’s content, and have been getting stuck into that over the last few weeks.

I decided to have a go at creating a map of the resort, showing some activities on offer to tourists in a fun and easily understandable way.

It is in B&W at the moment, as thats how i create most of my images initially, colouring them at the end of the process, but i have grown to like the image this way. Are maps allowed to be in grey scale?!

This is a self initiated project to keep myself busy...

I have recently been involved in the fantastic ‘Free Range” show in Brick lane, London with some of my course mates. The quality of work across the board of all illustrators was brilliant, and the turnout was also great!

The above images are the three i created for the event which was based on the name ‘Feral’. They are one long scene, split into three separate images covering 3 separate seasons, exploring environments and mini-narratives going on within the scenes.
